P&Cs Qld welcomes the Queensland Government’s budget announcement of record spending on state school infrastructure, and further investment in building teaching and wellbeing resources.

The investment of $541 million towards three hundred new classrooms will be appreciated by parents as a positive step towards alleviating crowded classrooms.

The announcement of a further $1bn for 10 new state schools in new growth communities will also take some pressure off established state schools in those areas and give parents a greater choice of public schools closer to home.

“Smaller numbers in the classrooms will provide every child a better chance at receiving the best education possible,” said P&Cs Qld CEO, Scott Wiseman.

“The Greater Schools, Greater Infrastructure program will see the construction and upgrade of assembly halls, performing arts centres, playground equipment, sporting facilities and shaded areas which many P&Cs have long been advocating and fundraising for.

“We are also grateful that our regional schools will receive the attention they deserve with $309 million allocated towards new builds, upgrades and maintenance.

“These infrastructure improvements and investment in teaching resources and wellbeing initiatives are closely aligned with P&Cs Qld key advocacy positions so we are very pleased that the Government is acknowledging some of the bigger educational issues and is acting and listening to the concerns of state school parents.
