Are all volunteers covered by the P&C's Personal Accident policy?
The P&C's Voluntary Workers Personal Accident insurance provides cover for volunteers working on behalf of the P&C Association, engaged in official unpaid voluntary activities authorised by the P&C and under the control of the P&C. For a P&C event, a register of volunteers should be kept as per the Student Protection Risk Management Strategy.
All volunteers should have a workplace and task induction.
NOTE: Volunteers aged between 10 and 18 require written permission from their parent/guardian and the School Principal BEFORE volunteering for the P&C.
Why do volunteers need to sign on and off in a volunteer register?
A voluntary worker register should be kept and maintained by the P&C/school at all times. If no register is kept, or no record of an activity/volunteer is minuted, it can be difficult for a P&C Association, to ascertain that the person was a voluntary worker at the time of an incident.
NOTE: The volunteer register is separate to the P&C's Blue Card Register, both play a vital role in maintaining accurate P&C records.

Can volunteers bring children into the Tuckshop?
Under the Personal Accident policy, ‘voluntary workers’ are defined as being members of the community aged between 10 and 90 years, noting that policy sub-limits and benefits are as defined and on a sliding scale subject to age. There is no cover for children accompanying voluntary workers unless those children are aged 10 or over and are voluntary workers themselves. As mentioned above, students aged 10 and over who assist as voluntary workers for the P&C, or their school must have written permission from their parents and the School Principal.
On this basis, P&Cs Qld recommends adults volunteering in a Tuckshop DO NOT bring children or infants with them, as the Tuckshop is not a safe or suitable environment for conducting child minding or for children to be left unattended. Young children in Tuckshops can create Work Health and Safety risks and hygiene concerns.
